Technology standards, such as Bluetooth, LTE, 5G or WiFi, enable, through the Internet of Things (IoT), to bring together people and devices and connect vehicles, ships, buildings, meters, machines, production lines, home appliances, healthcare devices and other items with electronics, software, and sensors. Connectivity standards are often subject to so-called standard-essential patents (SEPs).
The rapid pace of digitalization dictates that SEP licensingshould also be as effortless to all parties as possible. The success of the IoT hinges on licensing of connectivity SEPs.Yet, SEP licensing is not without its challenges, particularly in the IoT space characterised by the multitude of applications and novel industry verticals.
This webinar will feature an interview by IPlytics CEO Tim Pohlmann with Svein-Egil Nielsen and Marianne Frydenlund – the CTO and the Legal Director at Nordic Semiconductor. The interview will highlight opportunities that IoT applications present, explore the importance of SEP licensing for the IoT, and discuss challenges that may stall the uptake of the IoT postponing or depriving us from some of those opportunities.
